We’ve all heard the stories about the missing sock. You know…two socks go into the laundry and one comes out? The dryer is the Bermuda Triangle for all things hosiery.
In our house, we have a wonderful procedure for laundry. Each person has a bag, put your clothes away, etc. Having a procedure and actually executing that procedure are, of course, ideal. We don’t execute…back to the socks…
I often find my self searching for socks and underwear in the morning as I pull together my ensemble for the day. The rest of my clothes are hung neatly in the closet because the cleaners delivers them that way.
The other day, I was successful in finding socks very quickly. After all, I probably have ten pairs of light colored socks. So what is blog-worthy about finding socks? I found seven individual light colored socks…no pairs. One or two mismatches…fine…but seven?
I found myself growing more frustrated as I looked through everyone else’s laundry bag. I pride myself on knowing how to match socks to not only each other, but to my pants as well (yes, there are rules about this) and I would not break these rules. Ultimately, a rogue stocking was discovered mingling with my wife’s panties.
The experience left me imagining what could possibly be happening in the washing and drying process. Its almost as if there is a battle royale taking place in the machines and some day, battered and wartorn socks in need of darning will tumble out of the dryer.
