unemployment…

in economy

So, last week, the Dems were touting how wonderfully the “stimulus” was working when there was a drop in unemployment numbers.  OK, fine… $300 billion and 10 months later, we get a 0.2% drop.  But, come January and February, I challenge them to take the same credit.

Why?

Being a former employer who laid off 22 people over 12 months, I can tell you that the vast majority of employers are not as heartless and cold to lay off staff 30 days before Christmas.  Sure, it happens, I let three go in November 2008.  Christmas was a piece of crap in my house…I couldn’t enjoy it at all.  Result - fewer layoffs in November 2009 than the rest of the year.

It is, after all, the Holiday season.  Despite a slow economy, sales at stores pick up from typical levels during this time of year.  Retailers hire temporary help to make sure they can handle the load.  You can’t keep unemployment benefits when your employed, even temporarily.  Result - fewer claims to the benefit pot.

With the month of December upon us, unemployment will probably drop again.  And again, the Holidays will drive this.

My prediction is this: Unemployment will start its climb upward again for the January jobs report announced in early February.  It will go up again in February and March.  From there, it will plateau as more and more people drop off the benefits rolls because they’ve been on too long.  But, there won’t be jobs added to the economy until the Socialist Wish List of the Dems is burned.

I would not be surprised to see 11% unemployment come April…if not sooner.  So, will Dear Leader and his boys step up and take credit for that too?  Doubtful, a B+ student would never jeopardize his grades.

Have you noticed how the Dems like to spout off about urgency in everything they’re trying to do?

The “stimulus” bill had to be done right now!! People are losing jobs!!  This is an absolute crisis!! We’re teetering on the edge of economic ruin!! There’s no time to read the bill, just shut up and vote!!  OMFG!!

Of course, the bill was passed on a Friday and Dear Leader went back to Chicago for some basketball with his buddies.  Then, he finally made his way to Denver to sign the monstrosity on Tuesday afternoon.  This is ridiculous in and of itself…. But, what about the spending?  The actual stimulus part?  Oh yeah, that really doesn’t kick in until 2010…yup, a full year or more after the bill was signed.

Nearly 2.5 million more people have lost their jobs since the bill’s signing and the stimulus has only stimulated debt…

How about that housing relief Obama announced back in March?  Remember?  Maybe not, since it was only $75 billion.  Dear Lord, people are losing their homes!! Their homes!! We have to help them, its a “crisis unlike we’ve ever known.”  Honk if I’m paying your mortgage…

…and foreclosures have reached record highs.

What about Cap and Trade?   Al Gore flies around the world on his private jet, leaving the lights on at his mansion, telling us the world will end and man will be extinct if something isn’t done right now!! The poor polar bears, the ice…its melting!  We’re in the midst of a climate crisis!! Oceans will rise, cities will flood, people will die!!

Meh… ya know, let’s put that one aside for now.  Besides, its a jobs killer and it will cost families thousands of dollars a year in energy price increases.  Let’s not go there just yet…

I guess the polar bears are fine, the ice isn’t melting anymore, and looky there…global temperatures are dropping?

That whole health care thing?  Yeah, people are dying!! We must act now!!  There are 47 million Americans, well, 30 million ’cause ya know, there are a lot of illegals, so yeah, 30 million people will die!!  The health care system is in a crisis!!  Legs are being amputated for tonsillitis!!

Sure, it affects 1/6 of our economy and will allow the government to enter into your personal lives like you’ve never seen.  Yeah, we don’t actually have a written bill, trust us.  No, really, we’re transparent.

The law doesn’t even take effect until 2013…  why all the rush to pass the bill?  Perhaps, because the door would be open to all sorts of “patches” before the midterm elections?  Lord only knows what those patches might be.

The rush is by design.  Afterall, “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste.“  Get it done quickly because once “We the people…” find out what you’re really up to, we are gonna be pissed.

broke and nothing to show for it…

June 24, 2009

I’m no billionaire, but I must be a friggin genius.
Along with millions of other concerned Americans, I knew the Porkulus was a big fat waste of time, energy, and most of all….my money.
So, when the guy with the fattest wallet says nope, no recovery you’ve got problems.  Do you remember how The One spouted off [...]

political math…

May 19, 2009

I found this new blog through a Facebook post from another conservative.  It seems the idea has caught on and in a few short days, Political Math is gathering a handful of readers.  Its still a little rough around the edges, but I like the content.
The videos and text are a great explanation of how [...]

aig bonuses…

March 18, 2009

I am absolutely infuriated…enraged….pissed off…disgusted…there aren’t enough words to describe how I feel about this.  I have never witnessed a clearer example of the fox guarding the hen house.
Of course I don’t like the bonuses on my tab…duh. There’s a bigger issue here that is is getting lost in the blind hatred for the evil [...]

they’re baaaackk…

February 26, 2009

Apparently, I spoke too soon. I was full of Hope for Change.  Tax and Spend is back in fashion on Capitol Hill and the White House!
There is some extreme short-sightedness here.  Sure, it makes for a wonderful sound bite… “raise taxes on those oil producing bastards and mega-corporations!  They make enough money!”
There are two primary [...]

i feel stimulated…

February 21, 2009

The “tax cut for 95% of Americans…” we heard so much about…
Most workers will see about a $13.00 per week increase in their take-home pay this year.  In 2010, the credit will be about $7.70 a week.
Wow, 8 bucks a week…what to do with all that money…assuming I actually see any of it?

change we can believe in…

February 19, 2009

You know, I’m really happy to see that the old “Tax-and-Spend” Democrats have changed.  They’re not taxing…
…just spending!
Change we can believe in… like the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus.

excuse me, i want my five days…

February 18, 2009

What happened to five days for the public to review legislation?  The Dems in Congress passed HR-1 late Friday, The Big O signed it Tuesday around noon.
Sorry, is this some new calendar?  I only count 3 1/2 days…
Somebody get me a day planner, some tax shelters, and an antacid.

stimulus spending and tax cuts…

February 17, 2009

The “stimulus” bill spending really kicks in around 2010 and 2011.  How convenient… The Bush tax cuts that helped keep our economy rumbling along for the past few years are set to expire at the end of 2010.
The pork in the “stimulus” adds so may pet projects and entitlements, the Federal government will be forced [...]
