vacation

What is it about vacations that are so much about food?

This past weekend, the family unit took the truckster to St. Louis to visit Nana and Ba.  The kiddos got some quality time with my folks.  The wife and I got a little time to ourselves.

St. Louis food is choice.  There is no shortage of good stuff to eat in that town.  Imo’s Pizza, toasted ravioli, Ted Drewe’s frozen custard, Steak-n-Shake.  These are some of my “must eats” when I visit.  Mom’s cooking is good, and this go around we had some wonderful ribs…

It seems as though vacations are centered around food.  Think  back to a recent trip and consider the schedule.  Wake up, yummy breakfast… few hours later you’re out sight seeing or shopping, let’s have lunch!  By the time you get back to the hotel and take a nap, you’re geting ready to go out to dinner.  Oh, don’t forget the late night dessert before turning in…

I love to eat… and vacations provide a great excuse to make a pig of yourself.

Of course, when you return, you look at the newly expeanded belly and make a plan to work it off.  If you’re like me, you look at the treadmill and say, “meh, tomorrow…”

The family went to Breckenridge for a couple of days…the boys and I did some skiing and snowboarding and the wife hung out with our daughter.  I love weekend trips and Breck is probably our favorite town.

Currently, weekend trips are not necessarily relaxing for everyone.  I am usually the cause for this with my poor planning and lack of attention to detail.  Frustration builds and tensions rise.  I gotta fix that…

Back to the happiness…

As a kid growing up, my family spent many weekends at our lake house in the Ozarks.  I loved water skiing, fishing, and swimming throughout the summer.  Most of all, I loved the get away with family and friends….there were many good memories.

I want to bring that to my kids as well.  Here in Colorado, we have a huge playground in our backyard.  The activities for summer and winter are seemingly endless.  The only limiting factor is time, real life too often gets in the way.

We recently purchased a timeshare in Breckenridge.  This will serve different purposes for vacations both in Colorado and elsewhere.  We’ll get some weekends out of it.  I’m looking forward to the times where we can bond and have some fun together.

If I could get that planning part together, everyone could relax and have fun…
