too many lawyers…

in miscellaneous,things that annoy me

Take a look at this sign on a nearby Walgreen’s store.  Do you need a minute…?

snow-sign

OK…now, I know a lot of Californians and Texans have moved to Colorado over the years and, judging by the driving skills, it’s clear they lack knowledge of all things frozen.  And, I do realize the public schools in this country are more worried about self esteem than cognitive reasoning ability…

…seriously, is a sign like this one truly necessary?

By the way… fire is hot, sharp things will cut you, driving with your eyes closed is dangerous and could lead to serious injury or death, and if you keep making that face, it will freeze that way.

Have you heard about California’s latest plan? They’re banning big screen TVs because they suck up too much electricity.

Seriously. That’s California.

Signs like this only reinforce my firm belief that we, as a society, have jumped the shark in the area of law. It’s like all the good laws have already been passed, so Congress and the lawyers have nothing better to do than pass and prosecute meaningless junk just to justify their jobs.

The thing that drives me nuts is the sense of entitlement people seem to have when they f- up. Instead of having a sense of responsibility, and saying “geez – what a bonehead move I just made” – they go for the payday. And the lawyers egg them on. We need judges with the stones to kick these frivolous cases out of their courtrooms.

The lady who spilled hot coffee in her crotch after stuffing it between her legs and driving away from McDonald’s? Millionaire. The lady who took a fly ball to the melon at a ball game? Settlement. The burglar who took a golf club to the grill when he broke into the wrong guy’s house? Won the aggravated assault case. The judges and juries who heard this nonsense? Wanted to get home fast so they wouldn’t miss “Idol”.

So yes, I share your frustration with these morons.

But I haven’t heard about the big screen TV ban in California. Seeing the amount of power the entertainment industry wields as a lobbying force, I find it difficult to believe it would ever pass. Especially since pretty much everyone has a home theater out here. You can take my 65″ HD LCD TV when you pry the remote out of my cold dead hands!

Yes… the evil big screen TV is next on the list for the environmental folks. I heard about it last week. Makes about as much sense as banning black paint on cars. I agree, not much chance in passing, but it makes you wonder if tofu and bean sprouts leads to neurological disorders.
